Do the lights require any special care?
Not really. But since they are made of glass, they are fragile and should be placed where they will not be knocked over. The front and back of the blocks are frosted and a coat of acrylic paint is put over that to prevent any chipping.

What about making one for my child's teacher?
I think a teacher would absolutely love this gift! I could personalize it with the name of the teacher and / or the school.
